Dance Class Methodology

Here’s the methodology that we use in our dance classes.

All the courses are divided in three stages:

  1. Warming up: Each teacher ensures that the student can make a smooth transition from the outside world to the world of dance and music and that means that all dance courses will provide a good respiratory, physical, mental and social therapy. Dance teachers have outstanding capacities to guide well and knows what to teach; in the warming up the teacher will introduce the rythms to the student in a natural way. The warming up develops the musical capacities, the flexibility of the joints, the muscular streching and the mental relaxation, so that students can surrender to the music.
  2. Structure: Explanation of the rythmical bases and steps, the roots of the melodies, the pace, and the fullfilment of space and style. From this stage the teacher connects the basic steps and explains the corporal attitude of each style. One deepens in the corporal position and its space balance, because a good corporal balance is fundamental for practicing dance at all the levels. 50% of all the work that the student will do in future practice depends on the balance.
  3. Practice: the student puts in practice the connection of basic steps and it will be this practice that will allow her to actually familiarize herself completely with these steps. The body needs a a period of practice to completely familiarize itself with the movement and rhythms. In this stage the teacher adjusts body positions with respect to the balance, style and attitude.

In order to stimulate the student to practice, since without practice there is no result, the school organizes AFROLATINOS SUNDAYS every second Sunday of the month; thus we’ll promote a social gathering and the practice between the students, within a familiar and extroverted atmosphere. It will be the best day for the timid ones and all those that they want to dance in family.
